About
the Software
Microfianace
is now widely considered as an important tool for poverty
alleviation. CDF is the network organization of MFIs in
Bangladesh. It was established in 1992 on the basis of
a need to work as a common platform to share information,
learning and exchange experiences on microfinance technology
and its innovations both at home and abroad. For institutional
development of the MFIs, CDF develops systems and procedures,
which is customer friendly and also facilitate smooth
and efficient flow of information and ensure transparency
in the institution’s operation and policies. In this
regard, CDF selected 20 partner organizations under the
project 'Enhance Capacity of Small MFIs' with financial
assistance from Microenterprise Best Practices (MBP),
Development Alternatives Inc.USAID.
CDF’s
field investigations suggest that most of the smaller
NGOs use manual MIS system and do not have any practical
idea about FIS. In our country, larger NGOs use the computerized
software for their own microfinance programs to cope with
this emerging need. But, there is no compatible software
product available, which can be replicated for the small
and medium MFIs.
CDF,
therefore, has developed software for microfinance NGOs.
Installation of the software has been done at the partner
NGO level after necessary customization of the system.
To make the software operations facile, CDF has developed
user’s manual and planned orientation courses for
the concerned professionals.
A
vital point is that CDF sees the software package not
primarily as a computerization exercise but rather as
human resources development program, for improving the
efficiency of savings and credit operations.
